Summit History and Highlights

Since 2002, Highmark has been leading the fight against childhood obesity by convening a group of community leaders and stakeholders to develop a regional strategy to address this issue.

On Saturday, September 16, Highmark, along with its regional partners, will present a childhood obesity event for professionals and the public at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in downtown Pittsburgh to present and discuss solutions to this national epidemic.

Highmark Childhood Obesity Summit: Uniting Communities to Make a Healthy Impact

The summit will provide a unique opportunity for professionals to showcase and discuss collaborative solutions to the epidemic of childhood obesity.

The summit will focus on four key areas of emphasis to:

  • Apply innovations to address childhood obesity in primary care
  • Mobilize communities to adopt healthier lifestyles
  • Challenge municipal planners and community leaders to design healthier communities
  • Create policies within schools to promote better nutrition and opportunities for physical activity.

The public event, Bounce, is a specifically geared toward improving children’s health through increased physical activity and improved nutrition. Bounce, a free event for you and your entire family. Bounce is designed to inspire families to take action against obesity. This exhibition is expected to draw thousands of parents, children, educators and other influencers, so have your friends and family come down and enjoy the event.
